Summary:"Help Abbas to succeed" [Editorial, Jan. 13] correctly asserts that violence against Israel must stop before Mahmoud Abbas receives U.S. assistance. On the other hand you submit that Israel should, in effect, remove checkpoints that cause inconvenience to Palestinians. The only reason the checkpoints exist is to prevent the very violence and terror you decry. Abbas must prove through actions, rather than words, that he will put terror groups out of business. Until such time, Israel has every right, as every sovereign nation, to protect its citizens from being harmed and murdered. I find utterly incomprehensible your use of the term "insurgents." They murder, behead, blow people to bits in Iraq - and to you they are "insurgents." Call them what they are - "terrorists." Do you hate President George W. Bush so much that you must avoid any inference that he is right in his terminology - "terrorist"? And his purpose?
