Summary:The Long Island Rail Road will provide bus service in place of trains on the Ronkonkoma Branch during off-peak and overnight hours May 7 and May 10 in order to use the Sperry Rail Car to conduct rail tests. On May 7, three eastbound and four westbound overnight trains will be affected between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. On May 10, two eastbound and two west- bound midday trains between Ronkonkoma and Greenport will be affected. Customers will board buses to complete their trips. No bicycles will be allowed on the buses. The Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow vehicle with ultrasonic and induction test equipment, is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible. Any defects found will be corrected immediately. It is used twice a year. On May 7, tests will be conducted between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma from 12:37 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Customers on the 12:18 a.m., 1:18 a.m. and 2:55 a.m. trains from New York to Ronkonkoma will transfer to buses at Hicksville for stations Wyandanch through Ronkonkoma. Bethpage and Farmingdale customers will stay on trains. Customers on the 12:42 a.m., 2:10 a.m., 3:48 a.m. and 5:43 a.m. trains from Ronkonkoma will board buses at stations Ronkonkoma through Wyandanch and transfer to trains at Hicksville to complete their trips. Bethpage and Farmingdale customers will board trains at their stations. Local buses will be provided for intermediate station travel between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma.
