Summary:Rather than focus on Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida, he dissipated our energy in a war when he falsified a link between terrorists and Iraq. He lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. He lied to us when he appeared aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln declaring an end to major combat in Iraq. Paul Vitello's commentary on President [George W. Bush], opinion polls, and the ignorance of the American public begs the question: "Is Vitello part of the problem or the solution?" This writer believes he's no help at all ["Slice of Just Deserts for American Pious," News, Sept. 9]. Just as he seems shocked and awed how most Americans think Saddam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks, Vitello knows full well that equal doses of cluelessness exist on his side. Look at Germany. Here's a nation whose leader, and an adoring anti-war public, "had it right all along" in the minds of people like Vitello. But have you seen the recent polls? They reveal that many Germans believe Americans - not Arab extremists - were behind the attacks.
