Summary: | 1. 1991: The end of the brown era. Their image improves automatically as soon as the Padres shed their hideous chocolate-colored, softball-style uniforms with orange and gold trim. The new color scheme - navy blue, white, gray and orange in tasteful proportions - is much easier on the eyes. During the brown era, the Padres' average season record was 71-89. In the blue era, it's 77-78. 2. Dec. 15, 1997: The beginning of the Brown era. The Padres acquire righthanded pitcher Kevin Brown from the world champion Florida Marlins in exchange for first baseman Derrek Lee and pitchers Rafael Medina and Steve Hoff. "If I had to pick one particular player that has made a difference," general manager Kevin Towers said, "it's Brown. He brought a personality, a presence, to this staff." |
