Summary:I am deeply saddened that the U.S. government is advocating the slaughter of gray whales in our waters next month by a small group of citizens, the Makah tribe. This killing in Neah Bay, Washington state, is opposed by millions of voters, 44 members of Congress and all the elders of the Makah tribe. In violation of the First Amendment, the U.S. Coast Guard proposes that the American people receive no media coverage of the whale slaughter. An exclusionary zone is to be set up (at taxpayer expense) barring any whale protection advocate or member of the media from protesting, monitoring or documenting the whale slaughter and the intentionally bloodied waters in this so-called protected marine sanctuary. I attended the Long Island Power Authority hearing on Sept. 3 at the Huntington Town Hall to discuss the proposed electric rebate checks of $232 for Nassau customers and $101 for Suffolk customers. It was a done deal. On Sept. 10, the LIPA board of trustees will authorize these rebates.
