Summary:The Long Island Women's Council for Equal Education, Training and Employment is looking for women interested in training in nontraditional careers. The council plans to help four women this year through its new Mary Chisholm Training and Educational Scholarship, named for one of Grumman's first female engineers. Scholarships will go to women interested in careers in which fewer than 25 percent of current employees are women, such as pilots, plumbers and carpenters, said Geraldine Linton, director of the Nassau County Office of Women's Services. Women seeking to start their own businesses in non-traditional fields could also apply, she said. The goal of the scholarships is to "encourage women to move into or up within her chosen {nontraditional} profession" to earn better pay, Linton said.
