Summary:Now, I'm not saying I'm ready to toss my new life away for an opportunity to try to get into Manhattan from Suffolk at 8 a.m. But I think it would be nice if there were some kind of ex-New Yorkers' support group. We might persuade the authorities to close a stretch of the Beltway to everyone except us, our guests (a few Boston and Pennsylvania drivers would be nice) and maybe a contingent from Queens or Nassau. We could put our old Statue of Liberty plates in the rear windows and dust off our best driving gestures and curses, and everyone could spend a few hours driving on the shoulders, cutting other cars off, switching from inside lanes at exits, or for no reason standing on the accelerators, brakes and horns.
