Summary:Without union ratification, [Robert Maxwell]'s deal with the Tribune Co. could collapse. Under the agreement, the Tribune Co. will pay Maxwell $60 million in exchange for a promise to assume up to $100 million in shutdown liabilities. Negotiators for the Guild and the other unions met yesterday with Maxwell's representatives, trying to work out contractual language that was agreed to in principle on Tuesday. The Guild has scheduled a membership meeting for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. A ratification vote is planned if the contract language is "all completed." The pressmen plan to meet at the same time at the New York School of Printing on West 49th Street. Colleti said New York Newsday had long wanted to work with the subcontractors but couldn't because they had exclusive agreements with the News. **{(The following Appeared C Version) She said the subcontractors are free to deliver other papers under their agreements with New York Newsday, which is owned by the Los Angeles-based Times-Mirror Co.}
