Summary: | I never expected to live through the disaster I did and yet, at the same time, I unknowingly made specific preparation to cope with an event I thought would never happen to me. More than 20 years later, I still ask why or how it happened without any answer coming to mind. Had I not lived it, I would not have believed it. It happened the same summer I was taking junior lifesaving. Actually, I was receiving senior lifesaving instruction with my older sister and her peers, but since there was not sufficient interest among my age-mates to warrant a junior lifesaving class I was put into a senior lifesaving class and received only junior lifesaving credit because of my young age. I had taken all the previous Red Cross swimming courses, so why not? What did I have to lose? Possibly my life and seeing another life lost. |
