Summary:I wholeheartedly disagree with the knee-jerk conclusions of Sen.Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Rep. Norman Lent (R-East Rockaway) inNewsday's article, "Private Mail Plan Lacks Stamp of Approval." {March 5} Why not invite the creative talents and drive of the private sector, as stated by David Linowes? It is quite apparent that despite the occasional failure in the private sector, the overwhelming track record is clearly superior to that of big government. Lent implies in his erroneous argument that if you break up a monopoly you end up with confusion and higher prices. My phone bills, thanks to competition, are now lower than ever before.
