Summary:At first Dad was reluctant to seek medical advice. We all knew something was definitely wrong with Mom, but what? The doctor suggested Mom undergo further testing at McMaster Hospital. Before Mom was to go in, however, my sister came up with a perfect idea. Why not take Mom and Dad on a holiday -- just the four of us? When we returned we would be better equipped to face the consequences. It would be reminiscent of the trips we took together when we were kids. Mom and Dad had wonderful friends, but I never could understand why they never came to visit Mom in the home. God only knows we could have used the break. One day I asked them why and they answered not out of anger or selfishess, but out of love: "We just couldn't stand seeing her like that, it's too painful for us."
