Summary:Based on titles suggested by readers of a Perspectives section story in the Herald-Tribune in November 2001, the library chose [Patrick D. Smith]'s Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel, "A Land Remembered," for its debut One Book, One Community project. Events are planned for July and August at all Sarasota County libraries, including two scheduled appearances by the author, who lives on Merritt Island. In addition to its Pulitzer Prize nomination, "A Land Remembered" received the Florida Historical Society's 1986 Tebeau Prize as most outstanding Florida historical novel (the society also named Smith its "Most Famous Living Floridian" in 2002). Smith was elected to the Order of the South in 1995 by the Southern Academy of Letters, Arts and Science, and in 1996 he was named a Florida Ambassador of the Arts by the state of Florida. He also has been inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame and been nominated two additional times for the Pulitzer Prize. 10 a.m. Aug. 27, Geldbart Auditorium. Author Patrick D.
