Summary: | A man believed to be a Texas murder suspect was critically wounded in a brief, bullet-punctured foot chase on Treasure Island at dawn Thursday that closed the Bay Bridge in both directions for a time during the rush hour. Although details were not available, police sources said Texas authorities were en route to San Francisco in the belief that the wounded man is a suspect they're seeking on murder charges. It was not clear whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, came from police sharpshooters who fired at him after he fired several shots in the Yerba Buena Island tunnel, or both, said San Francisco police Chief Fred Lau. |
