Summary:Mayor [Frank] Jordan's controversial plan to rid Golden Gate Park of the homeless moved into a new phase early Tuesday, with police moving in to roust illegal squatters but generally finding only abandoned campsites. The homeless "were told the parks were closed and they had to physically leave the parks," [Paul] Boden said on KQED-FM's Forum. "That was illegal because Golden Gate Park is not closed at night." Under the watchful eye of coalition volunteers, police fanned out to various parts of the sprawling park at dawn to further Jordan's Matrix II program, the second phase of his two-year campaign to get the homeless out of the public eye.
