Summary:Milk and juice provide fluid, along with important vitamins and minerals. Beverages that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, and some soft drinks are not good sources to hydrate your body because caffeine acts as a diuretic, causing your body to lose water. Alcohol has the same diuretic effect. In a blender, liquefy 1 cup (250 mL) of fresh or frozen berries (any combination), 1 banana, and 1/4 cup (50 mL) of milk. Then add 3/ 4 cup (175 mL) milk and 3/4 cup (175 ml) lower-fat yogurt (vanilla or other flavour that complements berries). Christine Senson is a registered dietitian.
