Summary: | Just ask any of the gloomy goth-metal bands that cite Celtic Frost as an influence. Of course there are the speed-demon metal bands such as Obituary that claim Celtic Frost as an influence that may disagree. Then there are the prog-metal bands such as Opeth that call Celtic Frost an influence and they may argue it doesn't matter what the tempo is as long as songs are epic in scope. Then you may hear from Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, whose devotion to Celtic Frost was revealed on his Probot metal project, arguing that a song can be catchy, trippy, and heavy all at once, a lesson he picked up listening to The Frost as a young metal-head. So in Celtic Frost's first concert tour featuring [Martin Eric Ain] and [Thomas Gabriel Fischer] since 1988 (when Fischer was better known as Tom G. Warrior), fans can expect healthy doses of material from the classic '80s albums "Morbid Tales," "To Mega Therion" and "Into The Pandemonium" as well as an airing of material from the comeback gem, "Monotheist." Celtic Frost is scheduled to play Sunday at The Palladium. Though Ain and Fischer reunited for the "Vanity/Nemesis" record in 1990, Celtic Frost did not gain traction until about four years ago when the two co-founders began working on a reissue campaign of earlier records. By that point, Ain was into other businesses, including operation of nightclubs in Zurich. Fischer and guitarist Erol Unala formed Apollyon Sun in the years after Celtic Frost. |
