Summary:"Mountain Shadows," new fiction by [Barbara Milne Deutsch], provides an interesting glimpse of what life was like in Colorado Springs at the turn of the century. It tells of the adventures of [Letty O'Bannon] and her family - her mother and father Fran and Nathan, little brother Eric, her difficult sister Eulalie, the faithful family dog Chinook, as well as Letty's boyfriend, Clayton, and his father. Allusions to local and period characters are sprinkled throughout Deutsch's tale. The Ute Tall Cloud plays a prominent role; Bob Womack's gold discovery is mentioned; and Deutsch even adds that it was known that General William Jackson Palmer wasn't very happy when he learned that his beloved wife, Queen Palmer, participated in the Snake Scramble.
