Summary: | The NCAA has been throwing curveballs about its true feelings toward the country's unbeaten, No. 1 basketball team. It began last fall, when the NCAA postponed a no-tournament probation against UNLV in return for postseason sanctions next year. Never before had the NCAA lifted sanctions to allow a team to compete for a championship. Montana, Georgetown, Michigan State, Arizona. That's probably the yellow brick road UNLV will have to travel to get to the semifinals and it may tell you about the NCAA's feeling towards a UNLV repeat. UNLV is 30-0 and mostly uncontested. The Rebels have been such a dominant force, there has been speculation by generally clear-thinking people about how UNLV would fare against the weaker NBA clubs. (They'd be destroyed, of course). Suffice to say, however, any college team beating UNLV would record one of the biggest upsets in NCAA history. |
