Summary: | "It was great since I've been out of racing for about a year," said [Andrew Mealing], whose combined time was 85.44 seconds over two runs. "It felt great and it was a lot of fun." Mealing joined teammates Blake Donaldson, Scott Breadner, Nick Deakin and Mike Gemmil on the slopes. Elmira's Andrea Norris, Christine Wilkinson, Samantha Murray, Kaitlin Norris and Alanna Shuh and Waterloo-Oxford's Lisa Fritsch also competed in the two-day championship. The high school finals may lack the prestige of global competition. But Mealing doesn't care. For him, winning gold was a return to the top of the mountain. A place that makes him feel at ease. He's proud of the hardware and has the medal hanging side by side with others from his past back at his Waterloo home. "It felt like a good accomplishment," the 18-year-old said. "It was nice to finish the season like that." |
