Summary:The leaders from Turkey, Malaysia, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria also stressed on the importance of sincere aspirations for peace, dialogue, cooperation, justice, equality and democracy in pursuing these objectives. There is also a need for a sound macro-economic management with emphasises on industrialisation and human resources development and a constructive partnership between the public and the private sector. As for D-8 scope of activity, the leaders have decided to establish a mechanism for development cooperation within the group, and that the D-8 will be a forum with no adverse effects on bilateral and multilateral commitments of the member states emanating from their membership to other international or regional organisations. The D-8's main principles are peace instead of conflict; dialogue instead of confrontation; cooperation instead of exploitation; justice instead of double-standards; equality instead of discrimination; and democracy instead of oppression.
