[Russ Feingold] was one of several senators who called the group's president, James Zogby, after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 to offer support amid potential backlash against Arab-Americans. He also set up a meeting a few years ago between Arab-Americans and American Jews during the Palestinian peace process, said Zogby. Feingold's opposition to the Iraq war and his criticisms of the [Bush] administration on detentions and other policies are popular with the group. "I don't think Israel had any choice but to respond forcefully to these Katyusha rockets. The extent of the response, and whether some of that was worth some of the negative publicity for Israel, is a fair question," said Feingold. " . . . I regret tremendously the damage done to Lebanon. I regret the horrendous things done to Israel. I blame Hezbollah for these things occurring."
