Summary:At an evening news conference outside City Hall, [Bob Donovan] said he would fight the charge. "Mr. and Mrs. Donovan didn't raise a quitter," Donovan said, as his parents and others looked on. "I am innocent of the charges. I will aggressively fight the charges, and I will continue to serve the residents of the 8th District." [Michael Cohn], Donovan's attorney, noted the indictment does not allege the money was used inappropriately by the alliance, or that Donovan had received any money from the grant. Although Donovan indicated that his campaign account was kept separate from alliance funds, he used his campaign account to lend money to the alliance, the indictment says. In addition, alliance employees performed constituent services for Donovan's aldermanic office while being paid by the alliance, the indictment says.
