It's a commercial that tells us where the term infantryman originated. . . . It is said that the above term was first used during the Civil War to describe the newly indoctrinated foot soldier. . . . Taken literally, it is derived from the word infant, in that an infantryman isn't supposed to think, just take orders - like a child who must blindly follow the orders of a parent who has a distinct plan on how their child should be raised.
