Summary: | A Wisconsin congressman and three former governors called Tuesday for the pardon of a Port Washington teenager convicted of sexual assault, and the state Senate moved closer to giving judges in Wisconsin more discretion in such cases. The decision on a pardon rests with Gov. Tommy Thompson, who said through a spokesman that he would not decide the issue until after the June 24 sentencing of Kevin Gillson, who as an 18-year-old high school senior impregnated his 15-year-old girlfriend. Gillson faces up to 40 years in prison and is permanently branded a sex offender for a conviction of repeated sexual assault of a child. His name will go on both state and federal registries listing sexual offenders. |
