Summary:A federal agency has warned two Oak Creek police officers who purchased about a dozen handguns once used by their department that they should not sell the guns for profit because neither holds a federal gun dealer license. Oak Creek Police Capt. Thomas Bauer, the department's acting police chief, said his department also was investigating whether the officers involved in the transaction had violated ethics rules by dodging registration fees. In one case, an officer purchased used guns for himself and seven other officers. If all eight officers had filled out separate registration papers, they collectively would have paid $160. Instead, the officer who picked up the eight guns paid only a $20 registration fee, saving the other officers a total of $140, police Capt. Bill Wilson said.
