Summary: | Cudahy High School band members performed at Walt Disney World this month, a dream come true for most high school musicians. But it took a little more than wishing upon a star for Cudahy High School to make it to the theme park, according to band director Richard Mannisto. Mannisto said in preparation for the trip, 153 students spent more than 100 hours practicing and two years raising more than $50,000. The round trip to Disney took 52 hours on buses. Cudahy High School musicians held car washes and rummage sales and sought donations to help cover the cost of the trip before they even knew if they would be going, Mannisto said. Each student who planned to participate was responsible for coming up with $439. |
