"In the next few days, we'll be assessing our needs and deciding who will be returning and what jobs they will be returning to," said Jim Despain, Caterpillar vice president and general manager of the large tractor assembly division in East Peoria. The UAW's record 205-day strike in 1982-83 against Caterpillar resulted in [Paul Langford] being laid off for 5 1/2 years, divorced and broke.
