Summary: | The rooms, part of an in-house hotel system called the St. Raphael Guest Rooms, is St. Anthony's answer to a surplus of beds caused by the outpatient care and shorter hospital stays of the `90s. One limitation: If the hospital was to retain its bed licensure for those rooms, they had to be equipped for conversion back into hospital rooms within 24 hours in case of a disaster. Electrical outlets, lighting and a wall unit with access to gas had to stay in place. While modern medicine has meant more empty beds, the guest rooms also solve a much older problem for St. Anthony patients: A lack of nearby hotels. |
