Summary: | [Rollin S. Tebbetts] said the airport's maintenance crews simply couldn't keep up with the rate the snow was falling. Jack Chmura, the airport manager in charge of snow clearing, said he had never seen anything like it, even in his seven years working at a military airport in Alaska. The last similar storm, in which 15- to 20-inch snow totals were recorded around the state, hit Connecticut on March 13 and 14, 1993. Bradley was closed for more than 19 hours during that storm. In the legendary blizzard of 1888, 28 inches of snow fell in 24 hours in New Haven, although higher totals were recorded by other towns for the full duration of the storm, [Mel Goldstein] said. |
