"I talked to the president about golf and gave him a North Carolina Special Olympics pin. He told my dad, `{Marty} is a real nice gentleman and nice to talk to.' " Sheets competed in the first Special Olympics World Games as a swimmer in Chicago in 1968.He swam again in '70, then competed in downhill skiing in '77, tennis in '87 -- when he played with Arthur Ashe, and powerlifting in '91.
