Summary:Calling all preachers: The Ohio governor's race shapes up as a preaching contest. I can't imagine having a preaching contest and not inviting any actual preachers. We don't need a governor bathed in innocence; we need a governor with the integrity to lead us forward. We don't need a governor with half-baked theology; we need a governor with political savvy and toughness. Most of all, if the governor's race is going to be about religion, then let's make sure it has authentic religious concerns in the mix. Let's invite the prophet Amos to our political rallies: "I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever flowing stream."
