Summary: | The recent census data provides a very different profile of Canada, Ontario and Essex County in all areas of demographics. Our religious affiliations are much more diverse, attendance and worship in mainstream Roman Catholic and Protestant churches are remarkably different, patterns of immigration and migration (movement within an area) have shifted both in residence and industry. It is also interesting to note that the United Nations has ruled that Ontario's present publicly funded school system is in violation of the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights, of which Canada is a signatory and, that despite The Star's continued editorial proselytizing, the previous government's move to a tax- credit voucher system neither supports a strong publicly funded education system nor an equal opportunity for students of all backgrounds, according to the UNHR Committee's recommendations. |
