Summary:The U.S. House of Representatives is ready to approve legislation implementing the trade reforms worked out under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and establishing the new World Trade Organization, [John Weekes] told a meeting of the Canada-U.S. Business Association. Weekes also expressed confidence that the U.S. Congress next year will give the [Bill Clinton] administration the negotiating authority to add Chile and other Latin American countries to NAFTA and to embark on new trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization. Last year, for the first time, more U.S. exports than U.S. imports were subject to anti-dumping actions.
