Summary:Foreign Affairs Minister John Manley has asked Russia to waive immunity for a diplomat who has been charged with impaired driving causing death after an Ottawa woman was struck and killed while walking her dog. [Andrei Knyazev] was charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death, one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, one count of drunk driving causing death, one count of drunk driving causing bodily harm and one count of refusing to provide a breath sample. Half an hour after the accident that killed [Catherine MacLean], another Russian diplomatic official who had been out ice fishing was involved in an accident in Ottawa that did not result in any injuries. The driver also exercised his right to diplomatic immunity in the face of arrest. Ottawa police charged the man with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
