Summary:The opening show, Theo van Gogh: Art Dealer, Collector and Brother of Vincent, covers the career of the artist's younger brother, who was born in 1857 and died in 1891, six months after Vincent committed suicide. Between 1881 and 1890, Theo was manager of Goupil & Cie's branch on Boulevard Montmartre, from which he sold about 1,000 paintings, including works by members of the Barbizon School like Corot and Daubigny. Among the works in the show will be Corot's Artist's Studio and Daubigny's House of Mere Bazot. Theo's extraordinary bond with his brother is illustrated by a group of paintings that were special to Theo, including Almond Blossom. Letters, photographs and possessions of Theo end the show.
