Summary: | As Christmas approaches, I thought it might be useful to review some recent books that any fan of SF or Fantasy would love to find beneath the tree. Among the top choices are two new collections and two anthologies. Any new book from Ursula K. Le Guin is cause for celebration. Four Ways to Forgiveness is the second in two years to return to the Hainish Universe of her first five novels. Le Guin has always been recognized as one of the most complex and profound SF writers of her generation, but she brings a greater wisdom plus an increasingly complex and angry politics to bear on her recent SF. Four Ways to Forgiveness is a collection of intertwined stories set on Werel and Yeowe, the two inhabited planets of an obscure system, during the period Yeowe fights to free itself from the slave culture of Werel, which had settled the planet some 300 years previously. |
