I agree with the points of view, but I think more can be said. Liane does not understand -- cannot understand -- the situation. The depression years, 1929-39, were my formative years. Money was in short supply. Money was meant to be saved. In Liane's formative years money flowed freely. Money was meant to be spent. Liane read only the words on the bumper sticker: ``I'm spending my children's inheritance.'' She missed the hidden message: ``If I don't spend my savings, my children certainly will. |
