Summary:It is relatively easy to make your basement or garage floors look like new. Paint spills, grease spots, holes and cracks can be fixed up and your floors will look great. You may just have to patch, clean and paint away your problems or in extremely severe floor damage you might have to resurface the entire area. Holes or larger cracks should be undercut with a cold chisel and a hammer to create a good bonding surface. After cleaning and vacuuming, fill with the mix and trowel smooth. If the floor is in excellent condition, no cracks or patching, you may want to paint it with a clear or colored sealer. Sealers are designed to keep moisture out and permit easy clean-up. Patched floors are best covered by painting. There are a number of paints designed for covering concrete floors. The most common are latex, oil-based and epoxy-polyurethane. Latex paints are the cheapest, but least durable. Oil-based paints are the next best and stand up well under moist conditions. Although relatively expensive, epoxy-polyurethane paints are by far the most durable, especially on garage floors.
