Summary: | In Florence, the Czechoslovaks played well enough to get to the final 16 and set up a game with Italy on Tuesday night for the Group A title. Michal Bilek scored on a penalty kick in the 30th minute and Czechoslovakia, which lost its last four pre-tournament games, held off the rugged Austrians. Austria was handed five yellow cards. Austrian goalkeeper Klaus Lindenberger pulled down Jozef Chovanec, who was coming in after defender Anton Pfeffer's sloppy backpass that forced Lindenberger to come out after the ball. Chovanec was carried off the field with a leg injury, but he knew Bilek would connect. |
