Summary:John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate, and President George W. Bush resumed campaigning yesterday, seizing on the state of the economy to advance their competing bids for the White House. Returning from a brief lull to honour Ronald Reagan, the late president, Mr Kerry issued a state-by-state survey detailing the economic hardships of middle-class America during Mr Bush's tenure. He also highlighted his own plans for creating more jobs. Mr Bush's re-election campaign, meanwhile, resumed the broadcast of television advertisements in 19 states touting Mr Bush's economic record while in office and portraying Mr Kerry as a pessimist.
