Summary:One of the most laughable criticisms of President Bush that I have read and heard is that he has not gotten adequately involved in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Twenty or so years ago, President Carter was euphoric because he promoted a dialogue between the two enemies. Years later, the senior [George W. Bush] found a reason or excuse (depending upon one's point of view) to eliminate the most powerful and modern Arab country, Iraq, as a threat to Israel. Then comes President Clinton with his Secretaries of State Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright. They had a shuttle going between Washington and the Middle East, doing their utmost to achieve peace. There were reports that Clinton was hoping to cleanse his tarnished name by resolving this conflict. I usually don't lose any sleep over decisions John Schuerholz makes for the Braves, because he has historically done an outstanding job. The latest acquisition of Julio Franco (who may be as old as Methusalah and has played one major league game since 1997), and some of his other great bargains for the year (Rico Brogna, Ken Caminiti) have caused me to question his mental state. The word "pathetic" keeps coming to my lips as I read about the latest additions. Will someone please take Schuerholz to the doctor and have him evaluated?
