- THE POSTMAN: Kevin Costner directs and stars in this far too lengthy futuristic adventure that is as silly as it is implausible. Costner is stiff and his direction is heavy handed, resulting in almost three hours of sheer boredom. Also starring Will Patton, Larenz Tate, Olivia [Robin Williams], and Tom Petty. (14A) Rating two MB - TITANIC: James Cameron's massively budgeted epic romance set on the ill-fated ship contains majestic visuals and flawless computer effects, making the tragic story take on an overwhelming romantic grandeur. The film's weakness lies in Cameron's failure to develop the characters surrounding the couple (Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet) beyond mere caricatures of class. (PG) Rating four MB - TOMORROW NEVER DIES: Pierce Brosnan is skilled and suave in his second attempt at playing Agent 007 in the 18th James Bond installment and is the first actor to play him that doesn't inspire nostalgia for Sean Connery. But the film's action sequences are routine, the villain (Jonathan Pryce) is dull, and the storyline is second rate.
