Summary:During the month of February 1995, we visited Costa Rica for the first time and we covered various points from east to west. We were impressed with the natural beauty of the land -- but also very disappointed with the high prices that are charged to tourists. The dual price structure that Costa Rica has adopted (one for locals and a higher one for tourists) seems to be endorsed by the Costa Rican government considering it was a government decision to increase the entrance free for national and regional parks by 10-fold for tourists. We are also aware that other countries from around the world have donated large sums of money for the development of Costa Rica's regional and national parks and we hope that charging foreign tourists 10-fold for a park entry is not Costa Rica's way of saying ``thank you for the many donations.''
