Summary: | CBC Television is negotiating to also acquire the rights to broadcast the first solo, on-the-record interview by Diana, Princess of Wales that ABC News will air on Nov. 24. The interview, done by the BBC for broadcast Monday in Britain, will air next Friday night from 9 to 10 as an ABC News Turning Point introduced by Barbara Walters, said network representative Gary Morgenstein, who declined to reveal how much it paid for U.S. broadcast rights. Sabbath's Theater, Philip Roth's novel about an aging, libidinous ex-puppeteer whose mistress' death triggers a turbulent journey into his past, beat out four other finalists to win this year's National Book Award for fiction in the U.S. In nonfiction, the winner was Tina Rosenberg for The Haunted Land: Facing Europe's Ghosts After Communism (Random House),and Stanley Kunitz won the poetry award for Passing Through: The Later Poems, New and Selected (W.W. Norton). |
