Summary: | Supt. [Charles Bordeleau] said the police force will work with OC Transpo security to co-ordinate the approach to both emergency response and deterrence. One option is to have police officers walk through transit stations during late-night hours. That was part of the approach police took last April, he said, when combatting a series of assaults at the South Keys transit station. "We've asked our communications centre to be particularly diligent and quick in dispatching our units to assist OC Transpo bus drivers in whatever way, because sometimes the initial call doesn't sound as serious as it really is," Deputy Chief [Larry Hill] said. He also said police will focus on learning all they can about the groups of young people who have participated in swarmings and will try to stamp the groups out. "If our staff at OC Transpo take a look at the situation and feel that there would be a benefit to have some additional visibility by police officers, I guess that's something we could work with OC Transpo on," he said. |
