Summary: | A central Alberta man survived a harrowing collision with a CN freight train yesterday, then clung to the side of the speeding train for 20 kilometres and walked away after he derailed it. It all began just before 8 a.m. local time when Mr. Ebeling's pickup truck lost control on an icy rural road about eight kilometres northeast of Sylvan Lake and slid into a rail car in the middle of the train. The Mounties alerted the CN dispatcher but Mr. Ebeling, not knowing the dispatcher had been contacted, disconnected two rail cars to try to make the train stop. |
