Summary: | Amman - Moderates won a landslide victory in the Islamic Action Front's Shura Council elections, sweeping 80 per cent of the seats. Islamist sources said on Saturday that this unprecedented win is certain to bring about a reversal of the IAF's boycott of legislative elections. "Once the IAF has restructured its legislative, executive and judicial branches it will hold brainstorming sessions to decide on whether to join the upcoming legislative elections," IAF's former Secretary General Abdul Latif Arabiyat said yesterday. "The shape of the elected Shura Council is a reflection of a moderate approach by this party away from the traditional conservative line," said Al Arab Al Yawm columnist Jamil Nimri. "It is also a clear indication as to the shape of the Brotherhood Shura," added one observer. |
