Summary:Syria had demanded a total "synchronisation" of the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks of the Arab-Israeli peace process, a step rejected by the Palestinians. "We extend our hands to our Palestinian brothers and tell them we stand beside them in the service of the Palestinian cause," Assad said. "Let bygones be bygones, we should look to the future," he added. Assad called for the liberation of East Jerusalem, the unconditional return of all 3.7 million refugees to their homeland, Israel's withdrawal from all Arab territories to the pre-June 4, 1967 borders as well as the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as capital.
