Summary:The shooting, near the 23rd and Vine streets overpass, unfolded about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, when State Trooper Patrick Casey engaged in a gun battle with [Giovanny Cotto] following a short vehicle chase. Investigators said Casey was responding as backup after another officer stopped a vehicle with Cotto and three other men over an expired license tag. After police removed the three male passengers, Cotto allegedly took off with police in pursuit. During the chase that ended up on 1-676, Cotto crashed into the rear of a school bus, sparking a fire that eventually engulfed both vehicles. He then got out of the car and exchanged gunfire with Casey, according to police.
