Summary: | OUR family celebrated this past Christmas in Costa Rica. Our daughter and her husband are living near San Jose for a year while he teaches math at a local school. The flight from Charleston to Costa Rica was two easy hops: an hour and 20 minutes to Atlanta and four hours to San Jose. At the other end of the spectrum are the Jade and the pre-Columbian museums. Bello Horizonte, a suburb of San Jose, is home to the workshop of Barry Biesanz, one of Costa Ricas top woodworkers. He conducts tours of his workshop and the amazing gardens surrounding it. Sarchi is also nearby and boasts the Fabrica De Chaverri. This family-run business is famous for their hand-painted oxcarts and numerous items made from cocobolo wood. Two local airlines fly within Costa Rica. I recommend Sansa over Nature Air for one reason: Nature Air is located inside the San Jose terminal, which means parking is difficult and lines are much longer. Sansa is located outside the terminal, with parking at the check-in building. |
